After learning japanese and chinese, korean has quite simply been the easiest language i've ever learned, due to the ~60% vocabulary similarity, and near 90% grammar similarity to japanese and chinese.. The japanese language does sometimes differentiate meaning using a high-low distinction (what linguists call “pitch accent”), but the good news is that you do not need to learn a specific tone for each and every syllable like you do in languages like chinese.. And this isn’t even that hard. yes, i did learn japanese before chinese (and spanish before japanese), but i don’t think it helped me much in the realm of either pronunciation or grammar (with a few small exceptions). i took this into account when i made the graphs..
